Things to Avoid While Taking Captopril:
- Avoid getting up too quickly from a seated or lying position, as it may cause dizziness.
- Unless instructed by your doctor, do not take potassium supplements or use salt substitutes.
- Prevent overheating or dehydration by drinking an adequate amount of fluids and following your doctor’s instructions regarding the type and quantity of liquids to consume. It’s important to note that excessive fluid intake can be as dangerous as insufficient fluid intake in some cases.
- If you are undergoing treatment for heart failure, consult your doctor regarding the risks associated with strenuous exercise.
Captopril Side Effects:
Seek emergency medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction to captopril, such as severe stomach pain, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects while taking captopril:
- Chest pain and irregular heartbeat (fast, slow, or uneven heart rate)
- Feeling light-headed or fainting
- Heart problems, including swelling, rapid weight gain, or shortness of breath
- Kidney problems, such as swelling, decreased urination, fatigue, or shortness of breath
- Signs of infection, such as fever, chills, sore throat, body aches, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, bruising, or bleeding
- High blood potassium levels, which may cause nausea, weakness, tingling sensations, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, or loss of movement
- Low blood sodium levels, characterized by headache, confusion, problems with thinking or memory, weakness, or feeling unsteady
- Low white blood cell counts, resulting in symptoms like fever, mouth sores, skin sores, sore throat, or cough.
