Proper Usage Guidelines
Follow the instructions on the label or as prescribed by your doctor when taking acetaminophen. Overdosing on acetaminophen can lead to liver damage or even death.
Acetaminophen is available in various forms, including capsules, liquids, chewable or disintegrating tablets, and dissolving powders or granules. Read and carefully follow the provided Instructions for Use. Seek assistance from your doctor or pharmacist if needed.
For adults and teenagers aged 12 years and older, do not exceed 1000 milligrams (mg) in a single dose or 4000 mg within 24 hours.
Children under 12 years old should not exceed five doses of children’s formula acetaminophen within 24 hours. Do not give extra-strength acetaminophen to a child under 12 years old without medical advice.
The dosage for children is determined based on age and weight. Carefully adhere to the dosing instructions specific to the acetaminophen product. Consult a doctor before administering this medicine to children under 2 years old.
Infant formulations of acetaminophen are equipped with their own droppers or oral syringes. Ensure accurate dosing by using the provided device. Never mix or interchange dosing devices between different concentrations or formulations of infant acetaminophen.
What to do if you miss a dose:
Acetaminophen is typically taken on an as-needed basis, which means there is no strict dosing schedule. If you are using this medication regularly and happen to miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, it is advisable to skip the missed dose. It is important not to take extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose.
